RECOMMENDATIONS

  • There is good evidence to exclude pneumococcal vaccination from the periodic health examination of the general population and of infants and young children.
  • There is good evidence to include vaccination in the periodic health examination of patients who have undergone splenectomy, those with sickle cell disease, immunocompetent elderly people living in institutions and adults living or working in crowded conditions.
  • There is fair evidence to exclude vaccination from the periodic health examination of immunocompromised patients.
  • There is insufficient evidence to include vaccination in or exclude it from the periodic health examination of immunocompetent elderly people living independently.
